Founded in 1948, Saarland University is a Campus university with six faculties and 17.000 students. It has earned an international reputation for its research in computer science/informatics and for work in the life sciences/nanosciences. The university is distinguished by its close ties to France and its strong European and international focus. A distinctive feature of Saarland University is the broad range of cross-border academic programmes that lead to a double-degree qualification.

Saarland University regards internationality as a core component of its academic quality assurance objectives and as a key driver of its competitiveness in the higher education sector. Our internationalization strategy aims to secure Saarland University's position within the international higher education landscape and to ensure the quality of its research and teaching activities in an increasingly competitive global environment. In addition, we aim to pool our international collaborative activities and projects for maximum strategic impact.      

The International Office is managing all aspects of Saarland University's international relations and activities as a central coordination and service unit. It manages the international exchange programmes and the university's academic partnerships. 550  higher education institutions in 52 countries around the world are our partners. 20% of our students come from abroad.
