In the Day 2 of CHAIn’s Training of Trainers 1, participants have continued working with their “hypothetical perfect IRO”. Following the same dynamics of theory and practical sessions, the trainers Bettina Jochum and Lisa Nicolay from USAAR have provided them with key ideas about the following topics:

  • International Partnerships and Collaborations. Which included some basics about mapping and understanding the international partnership landscape, some tools and establishment of tools for potential partnerships and some strategies to ensure the sustainability of this partnerships which included pre-selecting programmes and faculties which are also relevant for the institution and diversifying the partnerships established to prevent possible difficulties or unexpected changes.
  • Managing Student and Faculty Mobility. During this session the trainers have provided some relevant best practices and valuable guidance about how mobility is implemented and supported by the different internationalisation services in the institution (including the Welcoming Centre, the GoOut Centre and the international students centre). During this session, the participants have reflected on the case studies provided and have reflected about their existent services and find how to fill the gaps and improve their strategies on how to support inbound and outbond mobility.

During this Training Day, the participants provided an overview of that “perfect IRO” which resulted from the previous sessions. The participants declared that this training model helped them to rethink on the role and functions of an IRO, to review how their IRO was working at the moment and learning how to fill up these missing functions/roles in the future.
