Western University was founded as a university by a sub-decree 72 on 17 November 2003 by its owner, Mr. Te Laurent. Mr. Laurent also started the Western International School in the same year. In 2005 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Western University branch was also established in Kompong Cham province. The University is continually fortifying its executive setup and academic processes to enable it to provide high quality education in support of the human resource developments that Cambodia needs to support its development. To this end, it has embarked on a program to further improve the quality of its teaching to reach international standards.

The International Relations Office (IRO) is responsible formanaging student mobility and international partnerships.

Alongside the Mobility team, the Partnerships team is a small team that coordinates and manages the development of research-led networks and education alliances with international partner institutions overseas. The team also leads on, or provides support for, wider projects and initiatives that embed internationalization across the whole University. IRO raise the reputation of the institution globally and to support Department’s research strategies and aid students individual research developments. It is an expectation that the postholder will develop mutually beneficial relationships that will explore potential funding and collaboration opportunities.

  • The IRO is a privileged entry point for all those who wish to carry out an international cooperation activities.
  • The service provides advice, technical assistance and support for the skills available within the university.
  • If necessary, IRO participates in setting up projects and drawing up contracts and agreements and ensures the smooth running of the collaborations implemented.
  • The activities of the service revolve around 3 main axes: research, training and governance.
