The rector of the University of Alicante (UA), Amparo Navarro, received this morning her counterparts in Cambodian universities, as well as two representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cambodia, the Under Secretary of State Rotana Som and the Deputy Director General of Higher Education Bunlay Nith. The aim of the meeting was to increase the academic quality and research activities of Cambodian Higher Education Institutions through the development of internationalization capacities.

The welcome ceremony was attended by the Vice Rector for Institutional Relations and Development Cooperation, Rosa Maria Martinez; the director of Institutional Relations and Projects and principal investigator of the UA in the CHAIn project, Juan Llopis; the director of the Institutional Project Management Service, Carolina Madeleine and the project coordinator of the University of Saarland, Bettina Jochum. Juan Llopis has highlighted "the opportunity that this meeting represents to share experiences and that the universities of Cambodia can acquire knowledge about the practices and processes carried out in the UA, in terms of internationalisation".

The CHAIn strategic project promotes changes that will affect the entire higher education system in Cambodia. Among its specific objectives are the consolidation of the internationalisation structure and the development of human capacities in these institutions, through specific training programs, but also the promotion of a series of governance reforms and the establishment of a roadmap from the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, which is also part of the project. Sustainability of results will be ensured through the creation of an internationalization network to promote and implement strategic actions.
